« on: Saturday 04 April 20 11:17 BST (UK) »
Hi I'm doing my brother in laws family tree and I've hit a bit of a brick wall.
I'm looking for Mary Ferrix born 1804 Tankersley, Yorkshire died abut 1901 married to Edward Parrat born 1800 died 1828. Any help appreciated, especially looking for her Parents.

For Ref, I see the marriage:

Edward PARROT, Miner, OTP
Mary FERRIX, Spinster, OTP
Married by Banns, 28 Nov 1824 Tankersley
Witness: William Saxby, Margaret Pickering,

Have you got Mary on Census?    Did she remarry after Edward died 1828?

Cheers,

Hi,

What were the details of her children with Edward?

There's not a lot to go on - and can't see any other FERRIX in Tankersley around same period....the closest i can find name-wise is this fellow:

John Faries, Moulder
Mary Lax, spinster
Married by Banns, Tankersley on 10 Nov 1823
Witness: Joseph Faries, Martha Lax, Luke

I think this chappie remarried 1837:
19th October 1837, Tankersley
John Faries, Widower, Full age, Moulder, of Thorncliffe. Father: John Faries, Labourer
Sarah Pickering, spinster, full age, of -----field. Father: Francis Pickering, Linen Manufacturer

It's worth noting..... FERRIX comes from a transcription.    But the actual image looks like FENIX to me - but in any case  it doesn't look like the "nn" as in Banns nor the 'rr' in Parrot as written by the minister who filled out the document ( and who also 'signed' their names)

Cheers

I see these two baptisms:

John Parrott
Bap 26 Mar 1826, Tankersley
Edward & Mary Parrott, Miner , Abode: Pilley

Hannah Maria Parrott
Bap 12 Apr 1829 Tankersley
Edward & Hannah Parrott, Miner , Abode: Pilley

I gather Hannah Maria is the known (ie: definite) Ancestor?  Who did she marry - was it George Sanderson in 1850?

26th May, Tankersley
George SANDERSON age 22, miner, bachelor of Pilley. Father Stephen Sanderson, Labourer
Hannah Maria PARROT. age 21 , Servant,  spinster of Pilley, Father: Edward Parrott, miner
Witness: Thomas Sanderson, Mary Allen Garside

As Ambly states: Hannah Maria shown as daughter of Edward and Hannah (not Mary).

As to son John he was baptised 26/3/1826 BUT on the very same day a Mary Parrot aged 23 was buried, abode Pilley for both.

Then, on 10/3/1828 in nearby Silkstone, an Edward Parratt married a Hannah Parratt - unfortunately no status is given for either but I would suggest that this is your Edward.   First wife Mary buried 26/3/1826 on the same day their son John baptised.

He then marries Hannah Parratt (believe both widowed) 10/3/1828 and then dies 7 months later leaving his second wife Hannah pregnant with Hannah Maria.

On 17/9/1832 Tankersley, Hannah Parratt, widow, marries a William Kay - in 1851 with various children baptised in Tankersley the census shows Hannah bc.1801 Hoyland Swaine and birth reg. of son David Kay b.1839 confirms mmn was Shaw.  Also shows an Emma Parrott, dau. in law, unmarried (in this instance this denotes step daughter)

Checking back further we find the following:

Hannah Shaw married a Charles Parrott 24/1/1820 Silkstone - the daughter Emma referred to above was bp.5/2/1827 Tankersley, abode Pilley (haven't checked for earlier children).

Charles Parrott aged 28 buried 5/2/1827 Tankersley and widow Hannah married widower Edward Parrott the following year and left pregnant with Hannah Maria when Edward was buried October 1828.

Next, Hannah Parrott marries her third husband William Kay in 1832.

In 1841 - as Kaye on FindMyPast - with William and Hannah are Thomas Parrott 20, Edwin Parrott 15, Emma Parrott 15, Mariah Parrott 12 (I believe this is Hannah Maria) so 3 are Hannah's from first marriage to Charles Parrott, and the 4th from brief marriage to Edward Parrott.

So, the mother of Hannah Maria Parrott was Hannah nee Shaw married to 1) Charles Parrott 1820 (d.1827), 2) Edward Parratt 1828 (also died 1828) and 3) William Kay 1832.
