Bonfield Bryant
« on: Wednesday 08 April 20 00:43 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm trying to sort out the confusing number of Bonfield Bryants

Bonfield Bryant and Sarah Shelton had the following children:

Sophia 1829- 1829
William Shelton 1830-1917
Georgiana 1833-1867
Alice Frances 1835-?
John 1839-?
Charles 1842-?

I can't find Bonfield, Sarah and most of the children on censuses.
Bonfield and Sarah Shelton married in 1829.

There's a marriage for a Bonfield to a Sarah Webb in 1827 and a court proceeding regarding how it was a bigamous marriage and I don't know if Bonfield who married Sarah Shelton and Sarah Webb are the same person?

There's lots of records for different Bonfields

Robert Bonefield Bryant b 1737 Ridgemont to William and Anne

Bonfield Bryant m Grace Hawkins 1764

Bonfield b. 1774 to Bonfield and Grace  Southoe

Bonfield Bryant apprentice in records 1794  Eynesbury

Bonfield b. 1799 to Thomas and Alice  Bedford

Bonfield Bryant 'senior' d. 1805 Southoe

Bonfield Bryant m. Anne Clare 1805 Little Paxton

Bonfield Bryant b. 1807 to Bonfield and Anne  Southoe

Bonfield Bryant 'junior'. d 1807 Southoe

Bonfield Bryant will 1811

Bonfield Bryant d. 1838 (stated born 1775 on burial record) London

Bonfield Bryant d. 1848 (stated as 48 years) London

I'd love to be able to figure out which Bonfield belongs to which, and also who the parents were of each Bonfield Bryant, and also where Sarah Shelton comes from, and what happened to all of Bonfield and Sarah's children?

Hi,

To avoid time spent finding what you do already know,  which of the children have you found on census (details?) and which of the children do you already know what happened to them (details)?

For example, I see the following - do you already have this?:
Alice Frances Bryant
Born: 6 Dec 1835, Bap: 9 Jul 1837 at Harpur Street-Wesleyan Methodist, Bedford
Parents: Bonfield Bryant, Carpenter & Sarah. Abode: St Pauls, Bedford

Cheers,

Hi, yes I have that record.
Cannot find anything for Alice Frances, John and Charles past their births/baptisms.

Georgiana appears only on the 1851 census (and was admitted to the workhouse in 1849)

I pretty much have all the records for William Shelton Bryant.

I cannot find any of them on the 1841 census.
I believe Sarah died in 1851- and Bonfield she was married to possibly the 1848 one?

For reference:
1827 Marriage of Bondfield Bryant, bachelor to Sarah Webb, a widow

1829 Courtcase, victim: Bondfield Webb, a Carpenter
https://www.oldbaileyonline.org/browse.jsp?div=t18291029-204
Charged: Sarah Eliza Tatton, indicted for bigamy and found guilty.  She was married to William Tatton about 1822, at which time she said her name was Webb, and she had a 5 year old child.
William Tatton was not deceased when she married Bondfield Bryant in 1827.

I think the whole family appears to be carpenters as this was stated on a lot of the records.
I'm just not sure which of the Bonfields married the bigamous Sarah Webb! (poor William Tatton!)

Thanks for this, I've had a quick check and there's records under 'Benfield Bryant'  and 'Bonfield Bryant' as well for him as a witness which could be him.

yeah I'm leaning towards Bonfield Bryant b. 1775- d. 1838
perhaps the one who married Ann Clare?
so probably not the one who married Sarah Webb?

and then Bonfield Bryant b. 1799- d. 1849
perhaps my Bonfield?

I looked at the record here https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D7187875
and if you zoom in on the free version of the will of Bonfield 1811, I think his wife is Grace?

That still doesn't solve who the Bonfields were dying in 1805 and 1807...
