Thomas Illman
« on: Wednesday 08 April 20 03:02 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I知 a new member and need some help to trace my ancestors from Sussex.

I知 looking for the ancestors of Thomas Illman and Elizabeth Barnard who married in West Grinstead in 1723. There痴 an Elizabeth Barnard baptised 1692 in West Grinstead daughter of William and Jane but I知 not sure if she is the one I知 looking for.

Can someone help me with this couple ?

greetings

Eliza.

Hell John,

Wow Thank you, very interesting!

Is there a possible marriage for William Barnard and Jane in the area ? And maybe a possible baptism for the parents

greetings

Eliza

William Jnr 1693 married Susan CHATE 21 Apr 1717 Henfield, and then had children in West Grinstead with her, noted as of WG on Marriage.

Thank you Trish, Great work! :)

I知 just working with Familysearch at the moment but FreeReg is also a great site.

Are there possible baptism for a William Bernard and a Jane Hills in the area?

I know many descendants of the Illman family but  tracing the family of the wives is difficult I have not yet been able to find out more about them

Nothing obvious for Jane Hills I can find Eliza.

You are incredibly lucky to get back to themid/ late 1600's with your Family and that may be as far as you can go.

Trish :)

St George, West Grinstead
William/Jane Bapt 2 Sons named THOMAS

A possibility might be at nearby Bolney
William Barnard, son of Thomas (Thomas is named first in the PR)
baptized 5 May 1662
born 1st April
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:J3V5-QLJ

Supposed to be a brother Peter who may have married in West Grinstead in 1685

EDIT
Here they are in a transcript, The parish registers of Bolney, Sussex. 1541-1812

Thank you again Trish and Jonw54 :)

Yes, William Bernard with father Thomas of Bolney is a good possibility I'll take a closer look at the family ;)
