Where is she buried.
« on: Wednesday 08 April 20 09:36 BST (UK) »
Im trying to find the final resting place of Jane (Jeanie) Clark or Gardener (70) who died on 13 April 1926 at 37 Wellington Street, Ayr. What are the local cemeteries and where would I get the burial records? Are there any online?

TIA Chris

Start with the death record. If you know her religion that can be another clue. Search in local newspapers for obituary or funeral notice.

Are you sure the address was Wellington Street? If it was Wellington Street, either it doesn't exist anymore or the name has changed. Wellington Square is situated between the town centre and the beach and is the site of County Buildings and Courts. There are terraces of offices and houses on 2 sides. Wellington Lane is nearby. There is a Wellington St. in Prestwick, adjacent to the boundary between Ayr and Prestwick burghs.

Just looking at an old OS map and if it is adjacent to the old Heathfield hospital then the parish boundary is to the north of it running along Heathfield Road.  Will try a better map

Wellington Street or Hunter's Avenue, adjacent to what used to be Heathfield Hospital, inside the Ayr boundary I think

I've checked several old maps and the thinking is;  Hunter's Farm just north of the parish boundary and in Prestwick, had a road leading to it from Newton on Ayr.   It was locally known as Hunter's Road, then to honour The Duke of Wellington for saying that a horse is worth more than a Scotsman, they renamed the road as Wellington Street.  On that map was showing the County Buildings and Gardens in front, but the place was un-named.  So, at some point they have named it Wellington Square and probably around the same time renamed Wellington Street as Hunter's Road.
