Lockdown, brick walls down.

Anyone doing dome more delving into their ancestors during the lockdown? I certainly am, and working on demolishing more brickwalls. I discovered a Barnard Carter born c1605-died 1666 who was occasionally Mayor of Sudbury, Suffolk in the 1600s.

Also I may have found a sister to my elusive ancestor Nathan Jackson Quilter.

My daughter lives very near Sudbury,what a lovely area.
I will be visiting after this is over.
Not done anymore searching but have got everything in apple pie order .
If any of my family develop an interest they can see the family,and where possible photographs  to show what people looked like.

It will make my day when Suffolk records finally come online in bulk (like Essex, London, Somerset have done), it will very much help is breaking down some brickwalls. Even with the less common names in my Suffolk lot such as Botwright and Whistlecraft, connecting them is not easy.

Never been to Sudbury yet. I cannot wiat for this virus to be over then I can get to Lowestoft RO, which still has copies of Suffolk PR's but original documents now at Ipswich I think.

I've tried for years to break down my biggest brick wall with one of my Irish lines going to America. There is no record of them before the 1870 census where I have them documented until their deaths.
Why the Irish never recorded which part of  Ireland they came from I'll never know, and with common surnames  like Carroll and Monaghan and the varying spellings and ages across the records I doubt that I will ever fill in the missing pieces.

I have no known Irish born ancestors but one of my direct ancestors was very likely in the army in Ireland in the 1851 census, due to deployment records. They were in England just weeks later. Sadly the Irish 1851 census has not survived (save for the odd fragment). He wed his first wife in Dublin in 1848. I descend from his 2nd wife. I also have another direct rellie who spent time in Ireland in the 1770s in the 63rd foot. So I have 2 direct ancestors who spent quite some time in the Emerald Isle.

Well looking at my lot, who sailed in1853 to Australia, the voyage from 3 February to 3 May, but then quarantine to 3 June , with a baby born on the voyage and one who died ,but would be buried at sea, I don’t think what we are experiencing now is anything by comparison .
At least there were three brothers and their families on board so help and support would br there ,but the actualities!

On our allotted walk yesterday, we saw a chap doing a very good job of knocking down his brick wall. Stacking the bricks up neatly.

Treetotal, DNA might help with the Irish ancestors, if you haven't already had a test it might be worth considering.
