That same ancestor who was in Ireland also spent many years in America 1775-1782. He was discharged in April 1785, returned to up North and married in May 1786. I did wonder if his wife Jane Burn was either Irish or American and he bought her back to England, but she is more likely from the Croft on Tees/Darlington area and he met her after he returned to the area.

Spent quite a lot of time over the years bashing my head against the various Irish brickwalls in my ancestry. Do not intend further to add to the depression of lockdown by giving the evasive blighters any more of my time or effort. If they want to lurk in Irish Shadows for ever ... let 'em.

I do feel for those with Irish ancestors, as it is virtually impossible, even with the less common names. But the endless Murphys, O'Briens, Walshes, Keenans etc, it is easier trying to locate Shergar the horse.  ;D

I found out that my ancestor William Beversham c1550-1606 was not just a Mayor but a merchant, and made several trips to France. His father in law mentioned him in his 1591 will as "when he returns from France". William also had a ship of his detained in France in 1590. William had trade links with Newcastle.

Am I mistaken ,but wasn’t,he a runner in the virtual Grand National?
Shergar,not Lord Lucan who would be 87 now.

Mind you ,the wonderful Gentleman   ( in the sense of his character and conduct,rather than class ) who is walking  hundred times round his garden and is about to have a record issued with Michael Buble “ You’ll Never Walk Alone” might show Lord Lucan a clean pair of heels!
Now a lady has set herself a challenge of climbing her stairs a great number of times, and what a lot there are,several flights, to also raise money for Charity.
