Ann Cooper and William Gibson marriage 24 Dec 1823 Guisborough
« on: Friday 10 April 20 22:03 BST (UK) »
I am wondering where I can find a copy of this marriage record please?

Ann Cooper and William Gibson marriage 24 Dec 1823 Guisborough

I am trying to trace anything about William Gibson, such as name of father or year and place of birth. Ann Cooper was born in 1807 Guisborough. Is anyone able to help?

Kind regards

Unfortunately that kind of information isn't available on marriages that far back.

Have you got William on a census or did he pass away?

The 1851 census should have age and birthplace.  The 1841 is less detailed.

Thank you, his wife Ann appears on an 1841 census with their son. I can only assume that she is widowed (she certainly is by 1851)

They had 2 children. I have multiple DNA matches from ancestors of both children. I have Gibson’s from North Yorkshire on my tree. I am trying to find the connection to William Gibson as I’m sure there is one. On my tree, I have a William Gibson born in 1802 Piercebridge, Gainford, Durham. He is a brother to my direct ancestor. I have a hunch that he could be the same William Gibson that married Ann Cooper, but have been unable to tie them together. Equally, if he’s not one and the same, then I still want to find out about the William Gibson who did marry Ann Cooper, as his parents will lead to a link with my tree if that makes sense.

So where was the other child in 1841?  If he or she was born after 1841 then she wasn't a widow at that point.

Finding a death for William probably won't help much apart from his age but it would be something.

Thank you. The daughter Mary was born in 1827. There are a few 1841 census that would match a 14 year old Mary as a servant in households, so I think she had left home.

I have not managed to find a death for William either, so I am still stuck unfortunately

Thank you! I don’t recognise who James Long could be, and unfortunately the name of the father isn’t mentioned as someone already said would be the case. I think it is looking like it will remain a mystery.

As you haven't mentioned how old Ann and her son was on the 1841 census, the following is a shot in the dark.

A burial in Guisborough on the 15/7/1828 of William Gibson a labourer aged 26
