Hester Brown of Laugharne
« on: Saturday 11 April 20 14:06 BST (UK) »
I am looking for a Hester Brown of Laugharne.
She appears in the 1891 Census - RG12 . Piece/Folio: 4516/ 49
1891 Census: Gosport Street . Laugharne, Carmarthenshire
David Brown . Head . M . 32 . Carmarthenshire
Elizabeth Brown . Wife . F . 26 (Est 1865) . Carmarthenshire
Hester Brown . Daughter . F . 7 . Carmarthenshire

I cannot find a birth registered, or her whereabouts in 1901. It could be Esther Brown as her mother had a sister called Esther. Although the census gives the name they were known by, birth records suggest they could have one or several names, then known by any of them. Parents and other children were born and raised in Laugharne, so logic would suggest registration to be Carmarthen, though logic has been proved wrong before.

Hi Both,
Thanks for your information.
Yes I looked for Esther/Hester Brown under mmn Williams.
It is the Williams line I am interested in.
Looking through the GRO, I could cross-reference all the other children.
London was a surprise.
The issue with finding an answer, it usually raises many more questions, like what happened to her.

Reading again what has been written, it would seem she was born before they married and registered as a Williams with no mmn.

Working from her grandparents and parents, I had the marriage date and never checked it against her birth. Born before they were married would also explain why there was no baptism under Brown and I have now checked for Williams and there is nothing in St. Martin’s Laugharne. David Brown may not be her father.

Do you have all the births and deaths of the children born to her parents?

I now have all the births, all those with mmn Williams
There are some marriages I still need to find, or confirm; I was starting with Hester/Esther
Jane Brown b.1886 pos marriage 1919 . William Arthur James . Carmarthen
George Frank Brown b.1893 pos marriage 1915 . Esther Anne John . Carmarthen
Mary Anne Brown b.1896 . not yet found
Maria Gladys Brown b.1900 . not yet found
David Brynmore Brown b.1906 pos marriage 1930 . Catherine M Gardner . Carmarthen
And I have some deaths, though a few I need the marriage before taking it further.

Margaret Elizabeth Victoria Brown b.1897 was my grandmother so I have all the information.
3 children died very youg and 1 aged 18.
Once the lock-down is over, I intended a visit to the library to check marriages against the 1939 Register.
