My 3 x great-grandfather Robert Peebles from Carnbee in Fife married twice, and his second wife Ann Ramsay was from Panbride in Angus. They married in 1838 and Ann died in 1860, aged 42, no doubt worn out from bearing 12 children.

William PEEBLES, age 25 in 1891, Living with  HACKER family (headed by a gamekeeper) at Mayton Angus.
Mary Davidson Peebles, born in 1888 who married a Samuel Ramsay, probably at Perth, Perthshire.

Thanks, my Peebles ancestors were from Fife. My 2 x great-grandfather James Peebles was the son of the aforesaid Robert Peebles by his 1st marriage. Robert married his 2nd wife Ann Ramsay in 1838, and in the 1841 census little James, just 13 and already a farm labourer, is living on his own on one farm in east Fife while his father and stepmother and step-siblings are on another farm a few miles away. Hard times.
