Lockyers of West Sussex - brick wall
« on: Sunday 12 April 20 00:52 BST (UK) »
I have been researching the family of Elizabeth Lockyer bpt 7 Sept 1851 West Thorney West Sussex .  she is the daughter of Henry Lockyer bpt 16 May 1794 St Marys Compton West Sussex and Elizabeth Wells bpt 20 NOv 1796 Horsham Sussex .married 15 May 1817 St John the Baptist WEstbourne Sussex .

The baptism of this Henry Lockyer at ST Marys Compton WEst Sussex gives no first names for the parents which are just named as Lockyer.  There are no other LOckyer baptisms at this church which could be any siblings.

Without any parents' first names I cannot trace a marriage for possible parents of Henry Lockyer  described later as a labourer.  I have not found any possible related LOckyer marriages who could be parents for this Henry LOckyer.    Can anyone help?

Hi lorneslady,

Welcome to Rootschat!     ;D

Elizabeth Mary LOCKYER, bap 7 Sep 1851, West Thorney
Parents: Henry Lockyer and Mary Ann

Is there a generation missing? Elizabeth Wells, married to Henry Lockyer 1817 - if she was at least say 17 at marriage, she's be at least 51 in 1851.....

Found on another Tree site:
Henry LOCKYER was born in 1826
Parents:Henry LOCKYER and Elizabeth LOCKYER (born WELLS).

Added:
Elizabeth Mary Lockyer is in 1861 Census West Thorney, aged 9 with parents Henry (34) & Mary Ann.  Henry: born Chidham, Sussex.

Cheers

Hello and welcome from me too.

As AMBLY says, looks like a generation is missing. Elizabeth Mary LOCKYER bap 7 Sep 1851 had parents Henry LOCKYER and Mary Ann BACON (or BEACON). Whilst I can't easily find her birth registration, her siblings can be found on the GRO with mother's maiden name BACON/BEACON, and brother William Henry (born Mar qtr 1850) is with grandparents Edmund and Mary BACON in the 1851 census at West Wittering. (H0107/1652 / 27 pg1).

So it looks like Henry LOCKYER married Mary Ann BEACON Dec qtr 1849 at Brighton (7/491)  :-\

Henry LOCKYER bap 23 April 1826 at St Mary Chidham to parents Henry (labourer) and Elizabeth.

(Also note brother George in the 1851 census - bap 24 Jun 1832 at St John the Baptist, Westbourne to parents Henry (labourer) and Elizabeth - residence "Prior's Lees".)

Then, as you say, Henry LOCKYER marries Elizabeth WELLS 15 May 1817 at St John the Baptist, Westbourne. (both otp, witnesses - John WOOLDRIDGE, William PEARCE and Nance WISDOM.)
