MacFamily tree 8
« on: Sunday 12 April 20 04:44 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me to sort this query please.
When inputting dates in the events area of the tree I cant get them in the correct order, sometimes the death is first then the birth, if i just press to make the change they both drop down several lines, with maybe burial or occupation above them??

Hope i have explained the problem well enough.

Thanks for any help

Hi, telephonist.

I have MFT 9 but I think MFT 8 would be the same.

You can order the events by any one of the columns in the Events’ heading by clicking on the one that you want. That is, if you want them in alphabetical order by Type, click “Type”. The same for Date, Place, Description and Age. So just click on Date and it should re-sort the events into date order.

Staying with dates, one thing that MFT is deficient in is in correctly sorting by date when you only have, for example, a christening date but not a birth date and you write say “Bef 08 Mar 1756”. MFT will place this after the christening date, not before the christening date. I wrote to them a few years ago but it is still not fixed. The workaround I use (not ideal) is to call the birth date “Bef 07 Mar 1756”; it then sorts it correctly - but it looks odd.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Peter
