Catherine Walsh/Welsh of Kerry.
« on: Sunday 12 April 20 08:44 BST (UK) »
Looking for Catherine Walsh of Kerry.
At some point she marries an English Solider called James Lygo/Lygoe/Ligo/Lithgo/Lythgoe.
They are in Glasgow St Andrews in 1815 baptising a daughter Sarah and then in 1819 they baptise a son Edward in James's home village of Marston, Derbyshire.

In 1841 Catherine just states she is from 'Ireland' and in 1851 she states she is from 'Kerry, Ireland'.
Her birth date is given as 1781.

I've managed to see these 2 baptisms although I'm not sure if these have relevant infant burials or marriages fitting them in Kerry.

13 Oct 1782, Tralee, Kerry. Catherine Walsh daughter of John Walsh and Margaret Mead.
19 Jan, 1782, Tralee, Kerry. Catherine Walsh daughter of Patrick Walsh and Ellena Walsh?

I'm not sure if there are other baptisms anywhere of Katherine Walsh's in Kerry but these seem to fit the age she gives on Census.

Any help appreciated.

I'd be cautious.
Walsh is an extremely common surname. A great-grandmother of mine was Mary Walsh. I know the parish she lived in and I know roughly when she was born. Even with those 2 crucial pieces of information I'm unable to distinguish her baptism from several other babies called Mary Walsh who were baptised in the parish.
You need more information about Catherine Walsh than that she was born on County Kerry around 1781. Age on census may not have been accurate. She may not have known her true age.
Do you know Catherine's religious denomination?
If she was Catholic, do you know if every baptism register for every parish in Kerry from the decades when she was likely born have survived? Are they complete? There may be missing years or months. Even if complete, some entries may be illegible and some may have been incorrectly transcribed.
