Gadget, great stuff. Seven of us hired a yacht from a laird there mebbes 20 years ago, his mother came over the hill on a horse to Ardmair to see us off! ;D  The boat was old, but teak & just superb!
Tanera Mor was another time. Happy Days!

Happy Days indeed, Skoosh.  I might have even met you  :D

Who did you hire the boat from?

I'm sure Time Rice had a property up there at one time, too.  Posh it was - us and the famous  ;D

I'll remove the names then as the Rhidoroch lands was the other side.

(My first task tomorrow will be to search for those notes)

I remember the old laird at Rhidorroch in the 1970s. He ran all sorts of enterprises on the estate.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

But he had nothing to do with Achduart or Coigach.

I'm still trying to find my notes and will report back.

No. That was just an off-topic meander. My apologies.

Also knew Robert Irvine of hydroponics fame. That was a bit closer to Achduart.

I don't think your laird was too popular with locals!

Robert Irvine was a canny person. We knew him well. He eventually went to a care home down in ?Argyll. His son sold the hotel and it's now just an ordinary place. Robert and  Roberta got it to Good Food level and a subsequent chef to Michelin star level.

I've managed to turn up a large file about Polglass and Achvraie but not Achduart. I think the bulk of my research on the area must be in the coombes, which are chock a block. I think I might have to give up on it, unless it is recorded on some of my old computer files. I'll check those later.

Coigach was part of the dowry of Margaret McKenzie (Lewis) when she married into the Cromartie McLeod family.  The part from Achiltibuie  eastward is now owned by the Scottish National Heritage.

If you are interested in the area, and the Cromartie McLeods in particular, Cromartie Highland Life, 1650 -1914, is worth reading. It's briefer than the Cromartie Papers.
