There was a further St Marylebone baptism (transcription)-

Sarah Bentley, bap 24 Jul 1795, St Marylebone, parents Abraham and Mary

Also checking
Robert Bentley, 8 May 1791, Whitechapel Church, Cleckheaton, denom Anglican (Methodist in 18th C), parents Abraham, labourer, and Mary.

One item I didn't pick up earlier - that Richard's year of birth is given as 1793 (bap 2 Apr 1794). Again, this is a transcription.

1841 Census (ref. HO107  680  16  26)
Richard Bentley, age 46, Upholsterer, born in County (Middlesex)
Address - Eggleton, St. Marylebone

Age 46 indicates not rounded down - a strong candidate for the 1793/94 birth/baptism??

Richard is in Elland in 1841. There is ‘N’ for not born in county but it looks to have been ‘Y’ originally and then overwritten.

Do you have a birth year?
There is a Joshua Bentley, abt 15 yrs in 1841 census with Richard and Hannah Bentley.
They are in Elland. Richard is a stone mason.

I appreciate Richard was in Elland in 41.
I am trying to rule out the St. Marylebone baptism, 2 Apr 1794 (born 1793), of a Richard Bentley, parents Abraham and Mary, as a possible sibling of Hannah Bentley/Holmes.

Apologies.
I thought you were putting the one you posted as a candidate for the Elland man.

In 1841, Hannah Holmes is 45yrs and born in county and Richard Bentley is also 45 yrs. Taking into account the rounding of ages, they are very close in age. It could be an error - misunderstanding the question. :-\

Richard Bentley married a Hannah(Lumb) and had a sister Hannah (Holmes). I see also that Abraham (hopefully Richard's father) was a soldier in the 1st regiment of Life Guards. Is it possible that a soldier could be sent/stationed near Marylebone in 1792 and his wife be there with him?....or am I clutching at straws??

Somewhere amongst one of my research piles I have a 200 year old record of a Yorkshire soldier posted away from home, plus his army wife and their child.

There were several barracks in and near Marylebone and if you read this (see link below)  you will see it was around your time frame that married quarters were being muted.

Well that's interesting, thank you. I'll try and find out where the Life Guards barracks were then.
Thank you for your help.

I have a couple of Yorkshire soldiers in my tree who were stationed at Chelsea Barracks 1830 - 1860's.  One had a wife who also lived in London and they had a few children there before they moved back to Yorkshire when he left the army
