Joseph MOFFATT
« on: Monday 13 April 20 19:46 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

My 4x great grandfather Joseph Moffatt was born circa 1827 and died in 1889. It was reported in the census that he was born in Lowick about 1827. I can't find a baptism record BUT I know his father was John. Could anybody help me find a baptism record or his mothers name? He married Jane (formerly HOWIE - M.S YOUNG) in 1852. Jane was previously married to James Howie. He then re-married to a Fanny.

Thank you

Ryan  :)

John's occupation was a Servant on his son Joseph's 1852 marriage certificate.
Witness was Benjamin Valentine Young (Jane's brother (b. 1838)).
Jane's parents were Andrew YOUNG and Eleanor Valentine.

On the 1852 marriage cert both were described as widows. I know who Jane was married to but not Joseph. The marriage cert DOES NOT say that John was deceased.

Joseph was employed as a Police Constable.

Yes, that's him. Then in the 1871 census he is working, again, as a Police Constable.

I think it is probably the census MOFFAT which states he was born in Crookham. Crookham is not to far from Lowick.
