Eleanor Berridge - Northampton Quarter Sessions
« on: Tuesday 14 April 20 00:37 BST (UK) »
I have a convict  Eleanor Berridge/ Ellen Burridge or combination , who was  convicted @ Michaelmas Quarter Sessions Northampton according to all her convict records. October 1814.
7 years for larcency.

I have looked at British newspapers online to no avail for any session records at this time in Northampton or the listing of charges, and I have not encountered this before. It says they are going to be held, but no follow up of this can I find.

I contacted local history group and they double checked and also thought this odd. Suggested I sent this onto Archivist at Northampton Archives. I have had no reply since Feb 2020.

Is there something I am missing about session records or can anyone help?

Yes, she did arrive via Northampton. I have her well documented once in Australia & her descendants, but it is before this I have my problem.
Thanks,

What does her death certificate say about her parents and place of birth?

 All unknown.
I am really after the report of her charge, which is usually in the paper and for some reason this court date was postponed. I cannot seem to find the postponed quarter sessions report and was wondering what the reason for that is.

Got it!

It's only a small paragraph, on p3 of the Northampton Mercury for 22 Oct. Column 6, 4th paragraph down.

"At the General Quarter Sessions of this County, which commenced on Thursday last, Eleanor Berridge was convicted of stealing from the cart of Wm Maples, a paper parcel, containing muslim, calico, and cotton stockings, of the value of 29s, and sentenced to be transported for seven years"

That's all there is.

Thank you so much. I have looked at that paper so many times & missed it.
I just so wanted to confirm this, as so many ancestry family trees have her tried elsewhere, disputing her convict records. Mostly have her at Old Bailey as Ann Berridge, who was also on same convict ship.
Even though I feel an idiot for missing it, you have made my day, can't thank you enough.

Just thought I'd add that the same report was in the Stamford Mercury, Friday,  Oct. 28, 1814 .
