Richard Woon birth unknown but around 1800, parents needed
« on: Friday 17 April 20 04:28 BST (UK) »
I have a brick wall I am trying to break through and have had no luck so far. If anyone is bored during lockdown could they run their eyes over this and let me know if you have any hints for me.
I am looking for the parents of Richard Woon (named on his son’s marriage certificate) born in Cornwall UK.

Birth; unknown. I do not think he is the son of Richard Woon & Jane Trestrail nee Hambly born 1800. That one married an Elizabeth Reed in 1825 and had several children born in London while he was working at the East India Company. His last child was born in 1837. He died in 1838 and his wife Elizabeth outlived him.

Marriage; 1835 to Jemima Jenkin in Kenwyn. They had 3 children and I have DNA matches to their 2 daughters and am a direct descendant of their son John who emigrated to Australia.

My father gave me the family names Hambly, Trestrail and Petherick which tie in nicely to the Richard born 1800 so I think there may be a connection a generation or two back from that, I just can’t find the appropriate marriage. So far I have DNA matches to both Trestrail and Hambly but no clues where they meet with Woon.
Any help much appreciated.
Heather

Cornwall-OPC-Database (.org.uk) is showing 2 baptisms for a Richard Woon, between 1780 and 1815.

1800, at Truro St Mary, son of Richard & Jane.

1794, at Lanteglos-by-Fowey, son of Richard & Mary.

Thanks for your reply. I think this one in 1794 is Richard Sandry Woon who died in Canada but I definitely will check it out.
The Richard Woon I am looking for married Jemima Jenkin and died before 1851 in Cornwall.

He is not with Jemima on the 1841 census either. (Jamima on ancestry)

No children after 1836-7, is that right? There don’t seem to be any after the start of civil registration.

I wonder whether it is possible that the Richard who lived & died in London had a second/parallel family with Jemima in Cornwall? Sounds a bit “out there”, but you say the DNA is there for a link to his maternal side.
