Bramble from Lincolnshire
« on: Friday 17 April 20 17:16 BST (UK) »
I am researching the Bramble family from Martin Lincs. but really struggling.

In 1867 at Timberland, Lincs. Rebecca Staples married Samuel Bramble (their fathers were shown as Edward Staples and John Bramble, and both were 37.
They quickly had two sons Arthur c.1869 and Walter in 1870. In the 1871 census Rebecca Bramble is shown as married but receiving Parish relief with the two boys.
In 1881 Rebecca still has Arthur and Walter with her and states she is married
In 1891 Rebecca states she is a widow and Arthur now 22 is still with her.

I can't find any information about Samuel, not on any census, no relevant death record, the only place his name appears is on the marriage detail of 1867.

Would be grateful of any advise please

Still looking for Samuel, excluded the Samuel born in Penzance, and the one from Norfolk, and the one from Gloucestershire.
Can't understand why I can't find him before or after his marriage in 1867 at Timberland.
I use Ancestry, and Family search and freebmd, are there other sites which might throw light on this ?
Many thanks for your time

A mystery.

The concern is that you have the 1871 census of Rebecca and the children and they are on poor relief, this could mean that Samuel deserted them, or he was committed and for some reason the records are not available or any of a few other options.

With no other records for him or for that matter his father John who I have just looked through three census returns and not identified either.

With Samuel and John both being shoemakers that is the sort of profession where as seems the case it is passed on from Father to Son and I would expect to find Samuel with his Father up to and including the 1861 census.  This was certainly the case with my own shoemaking heritage.

Good luck

Thank you Colin, the search goes on.

I can understand if he deserted them he may have changed his name, but why I can't find him before his marriage is a real mystery.

Appreciate your time

Thank you Colin, I suppose even though Samuel Bramble married in Lincolnshire it doesn't mean he came from there, but none of the others fit.
