Date please - Portishead, Somerset
« on: Sunday 19 April 20 11:46 BST (UK) »
This is a photo of the old railway station in Portishead, Somerset.

Can anyone enlighten me as to a date?

A guess ... early 1900s?

Do you know what the celebration is for?

Are they ship's funnels behind the station?

Could it be 1906 when Princess Helena  (Princess Christian ) paid a visit to open the Nautical school in Portishead.

I would say it was most likely to be early/mid Edwardian.

1904 was the laying of the Foundation Stone of the National Nautical School.
1906 was the opening of said school.

1904 looks favourite ;)

Apparently it was sunny on that day.
On the 1906 date, it was raining!
