I wondered if anyone had any information on past generations of the Hogg family from Irthington.
I am especially looking for Francis Hogg who I think married a Margaret and had children John Hogg 1805-1882, Robert Hogg 1802 and Jane Hogg 1800-1832. (John Hogg married Jane Kennedy and Sybella Armstong).

My ancestor is Sybella Armstrong - however she is not a direct line being 1st Cousin 3xremoved!!!
Her parents are Archibald Armstrong from Bewcastle and Jane Riddell.

But Have looked at the 1851 Census for John Hogg c1806 born in Ireland!!!

There is a curious entry at the bottom of his household of Margaret Redal (Could be Riddell) Widow GRANMOTHER 70 years old b Northumberland White Lee
1851 Census HO 107 /2427

I have looked for her in the 1861 Census and found a Margaret Riddell 81 born Alnwick Northumberland. But interestingly she is with a son John Riddell and he was born in Northern Ireland. Is there a connection with John Hogg being born in Northern Ireland?
1861 Census RG9 3753

I have looked up more census's and the Hoggs, Riddells & Armstrongs seem to be interlinked.

This may be a total 'wild goose chase' but worth maybe researching further by looking at the Census's for all of these families.

It may lead nowhere but just an idea.

Thank you very much for your suggestions. I have made a start on researching more Riddells/ Redals and the Ireland connection to the Hoggs. It is complex I think, but like lots of the reiving families there are lots of interlinks and possible weaving in and out. I have many Armstrongs, Hoggs and Riddells/ Ridleys in my family tree!

Thank you once again.
Kind regards,
Jan
