Just come back onto this query -- at this moment Charchar1 -- I think we would be 'jumping the gun' a bit to go straight to looking for births for George and Mary. (In my opinion anyway).

We have been finding what appears to be children of George and Mary - but not all of them yet - certainly the ones on the 1911 census registered as Williamson with a middle name of Pygott - you would THINK belong to George and Mary. Whichever child you are descended from - I would suggest you obtain a birth certificate to give you some concrete evidence.

Then we need to work carefully backwards on both families.

The number of children shown as born alive - and who have died by 1911 - we don't yet know whether it's between George and Mary -- or whether they may have combined their earlier separate families (although they shouldn't really have done that.)

Go back - census by census -- check the marriages of both parties if you can. Certificates would be good. I know they cost - but you should never assume in family history - as there is a danger of following a wrong line.

If this was my own research I would want to collect the children from every census for both potential couples - then check the GRO index as well to see who is missing - and try to find deaths.

We don't know for sure if the Mary Ann Harris/Thomas Williamson marriage is correct. Find a death for Thomas if possible. Does this then coincide with George and Mary being found together later?

More research needed yet.

I was under the impression that George was born in Rotherham, according to later census records -- however people quite often got their birthplace incorrect - sometimes forgetting where they were actually born!!

I am also slightly curious about Louisa's birth place -- given as Blackburn, Yorkshire? I know about Blackburn, Lancashire --(very well actually ---- as I was born there!) -- but didn't know there was a Yorkshire one.

This family are determined to make things difficult aren't they!!

the Blackburn noted as Louisa's place of birth could be Blackburn Moor in Kimberworth

https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/WRY/Rotherham/more

The adult baptism for her gives a date of birth of 8 April 1854 and there is a birth reg for

Possible marriage William Straw dec qtr 1849 Rotherham vol 22 pg 495 with Sarah Taylor on the same page

1861 Psalters Lane, Kimberworth RG9/3507 folio 71 pg 24
William Straw head mar 30 engine tenter b. Attercliffe

Think that Susan is enumerator's error for Louisa, there isn't another occurrence of Susan Straw in bmds or census that would match.
