Wantage Christenings
« on: Sunday 19 April 20 23:20 BST (UK) »
Hi is anyone here able to look up christenings in Wantage between about 1830 and 1890? FamilySearch appears to have earlier ones but none for the 19th century.

Thanks in advance
Matt

Hi Matt,

The Oxfordshire FHS issued a CD (OXF-WAN01 -  Wantage Registration District Vol; 1)
which contains Wantage  baptisms up to 1946 amongst others.

If you care to give some names I could look up on my disc for you.

Hi Alan

That's fantastic, thank you. I am trying to locate the christening dates of my Honey family ancestors during this period as I currently only have dates of birth for most and in some cases I only have a year or a month and year. I will post a few of the names shortly as it is quite a large family.

Does the CD include burials as well? Also does it cover any other parishes in the area?

Many thanks again
Matt

PS Just looked at my list and I think there's only 3 to 10 people I need to check.

Hi Matt,

Yes it does. I'll try and attach a small pic of the contents but if it should fail it contains;
Wantage, Wantage Union W/House, Chilton, Grove, Letcombe Bassett & Regis.
There are about 2 doz "Honey" baptism entries

The pic being small you can zoom in and it is readable with the coverage of dates.

edited - no it wont load the pic unfortuanteley

Hi Alan

Can you check for the following people please.

Beatrice Kate Honey daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Honey. Beatrice was born in c1892 but I don't know what part of the year.

Beatrice Alice Honey daughter of Mary Ann Honey. Beatrice was born in 1885 and died the same year so there may be a burial for her as well. Mary Ann is my great great grandmother but she has Beatrice before she married my great great grandfather [I don't know who the father of Beatrice was].

The following are both children of Louisa Honey

Charles Thomas Honey born and died in 1890
William Charles Thomas Honey born 1894

That's it. If you can fill those gaps in for me it would be a big help.

Many thanks again
Matt

Hi Matt,

Woolstone records appear on another cd issued by Oxford FHS;   OXF-FAR-1,
Looking at them , they only start in 1849 as it was a chapelry of Uffington which would need to be consulted.
Uffington registers include Baulking entries until 1850 and these, together with others,  are on cd; OXF-ABO3.

Hope its not too confusing for you.

On the other hand, I have some more info for you, which you may already have, if so, please disregard;

Wantage
Burials;
7-10-1893     Elizabeth Ann Honey, 27 yrs  Thatcher's Row
23-10-1902     "            "         "   , 11 mths, Stirling Road
This last entry possibly not connected.

bapt.;
24-10-1866 Elizabeth Ann Kent d/o Rebecca, Catt Hill (b. 29-9)
18-8-1844   Rebecca Kent d/o Francis & Elizabeth, Bricklayer.

Marriages;
On Anc...y there is a tree saying Thomas Honey - m - Elizabeth Ann Kent 4-1890 Wantage.

Alternatives;
9-1894 Thomas Honey - m - Elizabeth Chapman

bapt.;
30-11-1865 Elizabeth Chapman d/o John & Selina, Hawker, Grove Street (b. 10-11)

I'm just wondering if there was more than one family of Thomas Honey  & Elizabeth.
