A brief update. I accessed the Sheriff's Paternity Register and discovered GG Grandfather John was not familiar with family history when he made the report on his fathers death. I now have records including a decree with a William Davidson fathering Mary Angus's illegitimate child.
Mary is the correct one as listed in here who went on to marry James McDonald. There is also a Sherriff's Paternity record of Mary Angus with the child James Innes, which I am also looking into as it may be the very same Mary. Thank you again for the assistance.
Fay

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
