John McBride & Malinda Pittman Owen Indiana
« on: Monday 20 April 20 15:51 BST (UK) »
Here is my family tree roadblock I have worked years and years on:

In my quest to get back to my Irish roots, I have made it as far as my ggg grandparents, John McBride and Malinda Pittman in Owen, Indiana. I have been unable to find out ANYTHING about how they got there or who their families were. Here is what I know:

John McBride b. unknown (approx 1805) died 1838 Owen, Indiana

Malinda Pittman b. Dec 15, 1814 N. Carolina, died Aug 10, 1880 Washington Twp, Owen Indiana, buried in Dog Island cemetery. They married July 26, 1835 in Owen and had only 1 child together, my gg grandfather, Samuel McBride.

It appears John may have married Jain Bush first and had 2 children, Mary and Thomas as they are mentioned in his probate papers along with Samuel.

Malinda went on to remarry Messer Secrest in 1838 and had 9 children with him.

Alexander McBride was one of the first settlers in Owen county and came direct from Ireland. I have established no family connection as of yet to him.  There is also a Mary McBride in the earliest census 1820 with teenage sons. A John McBride was an executor for her will leading me to believe this could be a mother.

If anyone has these people in their tree and knows anything I would appreciate any lead... no matter how insignificant it may seem  :)

Have you seen this yet?
Counties of Clay and Owen, Indiana
Historical and Biographical, Charles Blanchard (Chicago: F.A. Battey & Co, Publishers, 1884)

https://www.google.com/books/edition/_/1VLWAAAAMAAJ?hl=en

It says Alexander was a native of Belfast and his wife of Baltimore. The publisher probably got the information from Isaac, the subject of the biography. See attachment. Maybe Isaac remembered correctly.

Also, the book says that Alexander and a lot of other men arrived in 1818. Maybe some of them came together and maybe that group included Alexander. If you can find any traces of some of the other men or information on where they were from, it might help find Alexander's Irish place of origin. See the other attachment.

There is an index of the personal names in that book here:
