The Berkshire Record office - do have a free Will search on line

and include

LAWRANCE John - Chievely, Draper, 1823  (spelt with an 'a')

LAWRENCE Thomas - Leckhampstead, Chieveley, Yeoman - 1754

Thanks Ruskie, it's actually Leckhampstead, Berkshire I'm after. I can see it indexed on findmypast but wondered if there was more information to be had.

Sorry about that Maddy - I have no idea how I got that so wrong- confused myself.  :-[

The original will be at the Berkshire Record Office in Reading.

Sorry, I don't have any access to Leckhampstead PRs.  There is a CD of Berkshire baptisms produced by Berks FHS, but that project is at an early stage and doesn't include Leckhampstead.  There's no separate CD for Leckhampstead PRs either.

Leckhampstead is only about 4 miles from Chieveley, and I think it was a chapelry so quite likely that there would be some overlap.

Thanks Sloe Gin, I'll contact the Record Office. Shame about the Leckhampstead records, guess I'll just have to wait a bit longer.  :)

Thanks Capetown! I'll check that out, hadn't thought to look for wills yet, good idea.

I've noticed quite a few variations in spelling LAW(U)RA(E)NCE.  :)

That's ok Ruskie - confusion happens to me all the time.  ;D

I was so surprised to find two Leckhampstead's within quite close distance of each other. (Fortunately on the census entry I was looking at Elizabeth makes it clear it was Berks Leckhampstead.)

Hello Livia and welcome to RootsChat!

I'm descended from Charles GOODENOUGH, son of John and Elizabeth. I have quite a bit of info up to them, but only speculation, nothing definite as to their ancestors. If you have researched this couple I would love to hear from you.  :D

As Sloe Gin suggested

Leckhampstead was a Chapelry of Chieveley.

I think FindMyPast have the" online agreement" for the Berkshire registers.
