1841 Census of Oxford St Thomas District 11
« on: Wednesday 22 April 20 10:43 BST (UK) »
I am trying to map the census (District 11) onto the modern map, and wonder if anyone knows where the following were/are:

Turnpike House,
White House,
Medley Cottage
Medley House
Noahs Ark

I am not local, but I am wondering if they were/are north of Quaking Bridge?  ie at the south end of Lower Fisher Row as it is now?

Stay safe!  Pam

There's a Medley Manor Farm near Binsey.

Thanks All,

I have marked the enumerator's area onto a modern map so I can see the scope, and am trying to work out how the enumerator was walking along 'Fisher Row', which is now known as Lower Fisher Row (even though the name 'Fisher Row' is still on the building by Quaking Bridge).

https://www.google.com/maps/@51.7518438,-1.2639407,3a,43.3y,251.42h,88.71t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s05mlGfaTwOnftq7KOG2YtA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

I am wondering if the Georgian looking building was Medley House; and if the numerator walked Fisher Row from Pacey's Bridge south to the Quaking Bridge??

District 12 has the northern half of Fisher Row, (Middle Fisher Row now)  and Fish Row (Upper Fisher Row now).

The map is great - hadn't found that, seems to be about 1939 Revisions, but I guess some of the 1840's building would still be there.

Osney Bridge is not in this area, must be a different Turnpike, ditto Binsey, but maybe an association there.

Thanks, Pam
