What became of Emmanuel Lake? WW1
« on: Thursday 23 April 20 17:57 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I’ve seen Emmanuel’s medal roll card. His first service number was 6077, and his second was 14295. It says he was transferred. Does this mean to a different branch of the Armed Forces, or just that he moved from the Devons to the Dorsets?

I’d appreciate any help!

Per the medal rolls, he started the war in the Devonshire Regiment, disembarking in France on 6 November 1914. At some point he transferred to the Dorsets, and was discharged on 15 March 1920.

FindMyPast has some army medical records showing that he was in the Mediterranean theatre in July 1916, on the hospital ship Assaye, suffering from pleurisy. One of the records has his initial as M so perhaps he was known as Manny.
