1901 Isle of Man census as Frederick ANSTRUTHER born Fife

Only shows Scotland - not Fife in 1901 - think you may be referring to 1911 I o M census with info given in opening post

Not found in 1891 or 1911

Found easily in 1911 - with same family as 1901

Carole,
I had always presumed that his claim to a birth in Scotland was an attempt to claim an identity different and separated from his complex birth family. Several of his siblings also changed their names from time to time.  The ANSTRUTHER surname that this BENNETT family switched to has strong associations with Fife, Scotland.

Thank you,  I had missed him on the Isle of Man 1911 census.

With your skill, can you see him in 1991 or even better his missing birth?

In 1891 he is not at home in Southwark with his mother and siblings.  Perhaps he had just left home for his first employment, perhaps in the Forces?

Nothing on the available IOM records.

Have you tried looking for his Merchant Navy records?
(These won't be on IOM!)
