Joyce Ivy May Rosser b 2/4/1914 Fulham
« on: Saturday 25 April 20 11:02 BST (UK) »
The above was baptised 29/4/1914 in Fulham's Home of the Good Shepherd to Winifred Rosser. It appears that she was adopted by Charles V Burton and his wife Mabel B nee Horlock, with another child Oscar b 1923 and they emigrated to the USA in 1930.
I understand that the Fulham home was for 'penitent women'. One of my ancestors was Winifred Annie Rosser (1896-1984) who never married but I wonder if she was actually the mother of Joyce?

Hello Sandra,
I see you've got a new picture. It looks like the Burtons' stayed in the USA and Joyce Ivy married there. I guess this is another one where I'll have to get Joyce's birth certificate in hope that it'll gice her mother's details.

Birth was registered in Marylebone, minus the name Joyce
ROSSER, IVY  MAY
Mother's Maiden Surname:
GRO Reference: 1914  J Quarter in ST. MARYLEBONE  Volume 01A  Page 892

That baptism in Fulham was in 1914, yes on 29 April, so just a few weeks after the birth.
1915 is an indexing error by ancestry.
All the Home of the Good Shepherd baptisms on same page are Marylebone births.

Hard work finding her in the free index to 1911!

Indexed as Bonner on ancestry, not allowed to comment on the original.

I wonder if Joyce Ivy May was born at Queen Charlotte's Hospital?
Has that sort of feel! There are some records at LMA, discussed before (i.e. could give age of mum)

It looks like the Burtons' stayed in the USA and Joyce Ivy married there.

US Social Security Death Index
Joyce Burton Nickerson
born 2 April 1914
died 2 Feb 2009
Last residence was in Florida

An obituary of Joyce with a nice photograph, originally from the Tampa Bay Times (then the St Petersburg Times?)
From the biographical information she is undoubtedly your lady. Was married to Edwin Nickerson.

Married more than once?
From Connecticut, a petition for naturalization, Joyce Burton Watkinson, married to Harry in 1941
born London 2 April 1914
Came on the Aquitania 1930
(on ancestry)

A  1944 border crossing on FamilySearch
Joyce Burton Watkinson, age 30

No doubt is more to find.
