Is the marriage to Julia Clark 17th May 1843 , John`s father William ? at St Peter`s Bottesford ? on FreeReg.

There is also a baptism for a John Pygate , father William, mother Jane in 1808. It`s within the vicinty, although it doesn`t tally with the birth date you gave.

Which census did you find him on ?

John Pigate bp.29/11/1818 Messingham, Lincolnshire, son of William (labourer) and Mary - abode East Butterwick.

East Butterwick listed as a village and township in Bottesford and Messingham parishes.  (East Butterwick didn't appear to have their own church at that time.)
