Hervey Padfield of Spink County South Dakota
« on: Sunday 26 April 20 00:37 BST (UK) »
Hervey Padfield (1862-1940) lived in Verdon and Groton SD with his brother Charles Padfield, his mother Harriet Padfield, and their familes - wives and children. They also lived in Madison, Wisonsin, moving back and forth to SD as farming work became available.

Charles and Harriet are well documented, but it seems Hervey has been wiped off the family tree and map. Descendants in South Dakota have no record or memory of him, while having numerous photos and documents of Charles. In fact, Harriet's grave marker only lists Charles as a son. Must have been some big falling out, and someone went to some effort to make Hervey and his family vanish.

I have some information on Hervey, but there is only one known photo (Charles has many). I am hoping someone out there knows this family and might be able to help with photos and any documents. Under Harriet's Find-a-Grave info there is a lot of history and you can see the brothers were often together in the same house, working the same fields. Somewhere around 1910, there was some big snafu. Extended family have never even heard of Hervey. Hervey's obit is also on the Find-a-Grave page.

I am attaching the photo - only copy I could get. Lela is one of their daughters.

Their children are Bernice Huson (b. 1887), Chester (b.1890), Mabel Lake (b.1895), Leala Kopp (b.1897), and Hammond (b.1907).

Any help is very much appreciated.
