Joan Ivy Nobes
« on: Sunday 26 April 20 11:41 BST (UK) »
Trying to find out father for Joan Ivy Smith  16/11/1923  mother was Ethel Florence Nobes. I think Joan was born out of wedlock hence she has mothers maiden name in Portsmouth. I would be grateful for fathers name and birthday and place of birth too if possible.  Sorry to be a pain, but I am not getting anything.

Can anyone also make out what Ethels fathers occupation is from 1901 census copy attached.

Not clear which entry you need for occupation

1). Messenger. (Port has been added by enumerator)

2). Bootmaker

If she was then it is unlikely you will ever know who her father was.

What did she put on her marriage certificate?

I see her father as an electrical engine driver?  Not from your copy but from looking up the 1901 census on ancestry.

Was he called Francis Nobes?

Hi Millipede   that's interesting.  I had ethel Florence nobes father as Sidney   and mother Jane.

Ethel Florence nobes is Joan Ivy Nobes's mother.  Ethel was born 03/03/1900.

So not sure where Francis came from

Hi Rosie 99

Yes you are spot on  it is boot maker. I have found a county directory entry for his address and he is listed as Boot repairer. Thanks
