I thought the 1773 marriage might have been a clue to the death of his first wife.
Richard Wernham (Berkshire 18th century),
William Hissey (1805 to 1813, Hampstead Norris),
Kapirin (Siberia 19th Century),
Kitching 1850,
Mary Howse born 1806 ish,
Chris Truelove marr. John Pocock 2-7-1696, Kintbury, Berks

I think the surname of the son in law is Shopland.

Marriage in Bideford Devon by licence 3 March 1779 of John Shopland otp and Mary Ann Smith of St Thomas, Haverfordwest. Witnesses John Dunn, parish clerk & J Jewell schoolmaster.

baptisms in the same parish to John & Mary Ann
John Smith Shopland 5 Jan 1780
Lucy 21 Dec 1781

Haven't spotted Peter as yet but there was a burial 6 Aug 1790 in Landcross of a Peter Winwood Shopland, indexed as 1611 on FindMyPast for some reason.
Just found Mary Ann Shopland buried 30 March 1788 also indexed as 1611...

the Landcross register is a bit of  a mess.

John Smith Shopland aged 2 was buried 19 Oct 1781
Mary Ann Shopland buried 28 Feb 1786

perhaps one of the Mary Anns was a child but not noted.

Marriage by licence 30 April 1804 in Bideford William Short Tyeth and Lucy Shopland, witnesses John & Jane Shopland, all signed.
Possible marriage in Bideford 25 Oct 1794 John Shopland, gent, & jane Crealock both otp

came from the Wales parish registers on Findmypast. I looked at the register for one son and found the family page.   :D

Do you have the death of William Bowen in Bristol in 1826? Quaker burial for non member noted as of Tenby. PCC will mentions second wife Elizabeth.
