I am in Australia and I know that the Australian War Memorial in Canberra includes details.

I have just tried Googling "Australians in the International Brigades 1936" and quite a few quality websites popped up.

Thanks Skoosh.  Greetings from New Zealand .I have just heard a family story that an adopted  relative of my mother was in the International Brigade and died in Spain. I  would like to verify this story. I have the name James Mc Lachlan/McLaughlan from Greenock. So far on a memorial data base  can only find a William Mc Laughlin ( other name James)who died at Brunete in july 1937. born in Belfast.  Does the book you recommend have the names of those who joined from Scotland  who died in the conflict ?
My family's stories are often fanciful but usually have some element of truth !  Regards  Orkrad

Thanks majm for your reply.   Greetings from Aotearoa. Th e  usual google searches for the person I am looking for who joined the International Brigade from Scotland  were interesting but not sufficiently detailed for my search. So far I cannot find a Scottish memorial  with the names of the deceased. i am trying to follow up a family story about a relative of my mother who joined the International Brigade from  Greenock.  Orkrad

Orkrad, a lot of names in that book but don't remember if it is complete. You might try Electric Scotland for a start,

http://electricscotland.com/

There is a memorial by the Clyde to the guys who went to Spain.

Thanks skoosh.  I have seen both the sites you mention. However no actual names. I read that the Glasgow memorial is sadly very deteriorated and that there was to be a conference in Edinburgh this year which was unfortunately cancelled.  The search goes on.! Orkrad.

There's various threads about chaps with same or similar name from Greenock on the Renfrewshire board  :)
