GAUNT Richard and HEALEY Margaret Tasmanian Convicts
« on: Tuesday 28 April 20 10:12 BST (UK) »
Richard GAUNT was born in Matlock, Derbyshire around 1816. He was convicted of horse stealing and was transported to Tasmania on the Elphinstone in 1836.

I am hoping someone has Tasmania BDM records to verify the following

He married Margaret HEALEY in or around 1843 in Hobart. Margaret was also a convict but haven't found here record yet.

According to his death certificate 1873 in Victoria. He had 3 daughters Lydia born c 1843, Sarah born c 1845 and Margaret born c 1847. Sarah and Margaret travelled with the family to Victoria in around 1851. I believe Lydia stayed in Tasmania and married there.

I have family information of Sarah and Margaret but nothing on what happened to Lydia.

Any help would be great Thank you in anticipation

Can you please list all the information on the death certificate, 1873.

How have you identified Margarey HEALEY to be a convict?.

Here is Richard's death entry.

Sorry I should have said I suspect that Margaret Healey could have been a convict but haven't been able to establish whether she was or not.

Thanks matthewj64.

It looks like Lydia may be the daughter of Robert Burrowes and Margaret Healey.
This would explain why she stayed in Tasmania when her mother and two younger siblings went to Victoria.

Healey is given as mother's maiden name on daughter Margaret's death certificate and also on her own death certificate. Margaret's maiden name shown as Nealy on her husband Richard Gaunt's death certificate.

Death certificates are notorious for incorrect information so it could be Nealy.

I have now been able to find death notices for Lydia and her husband. (attached)

It appears they only had one daughter Mrs McNaught (Macnought).

If anyone could find a marriage for Elizabeth Hawkins and Mr McNaught and any children - I would be most grateful.
