Hi

Great photo!
I have lived in this area all my life. I'm trying to determine where the photo has been taken - but as of yet, can't pinpoint the location. Of course, it could be it was taken on an outing like a Sunday School Trip.
Unfortunately, I can't say I recognise anyone. What is your grandad's family name? Could be this is a big family group?

Looby :)

My grandad Richard McGinlay  was born Glasgow 1916 and lived in Newmilns before the war his parents lived Campbell Street, even though i cant see his mum in picture.

The boy at the far bottom left of picture is John Connell born 1920, i am thinking that the chap on top right with hat is called William Thorburn but certain

William Connell was husband to Margaret Kerr McGregor and the Annie Harris McGinlay-his parents were Mary Parker and John Connell, his mums second husband was William Thorburn.

Sorry,

I'm a wee bit confused.

My grandad Richard McGinlay  was born Glasgow 1916
So your grandad is Richard McGinlay.
But who are John and William Connell- and is William Thorburn their step-father or Richard McGinlay's?
I know Campbell Street well- but none of the names, other than Connell, are familiar to me.

If you are a Facebook user , there is a very active Facebook group called- Irvine Valley Memories- people post old photographs of the Irvine Valley towns and people. If you posted your photograph with the details of the people you believe to be in the photograph, you might get a response.

Looby  :)

Ahh, thanks , I understand their relationships now- thank you.  William and Annie (Harris McGinlay ) Connell are probably buried in Newmilns Cemetery.
Definitely put your photo on that FB page- I'll look out for it !

Yes, I think I know where you mean.  Perhaps a headstone was too much of an expense at the time they died  :-\  or maybe if there originally was a headstone, it has been removed. There were a few in the cemetery had become unstable and were either strapped up or removed for safety reasons a few years ago.
