Help please - foley family from Cork but settled in Bristol
« on: Wednesday 29 April 20 14:56 BST (UK) »
I have recently started back researching after 8 years so I am a little rusty. So if anyone could help that would be amazing. I am reasearching the foley family from Cork but settled in Bristol United Kingdom. My great grandad John foley born abt1842 in cork . I have found him on census also marriage certificate. What Im Stuck with that he is on 1870 census living with the Murphy family apparently he is cousin to the head of house I am trying to find out John foley parents . I know that his dad was also John foley but can’t find his mother could this be done through his cousin why would his cousin have different surname . Or the marriage between John Murphy and Ellen . Many thanks

Am I wasting my time finding relatives in cork with not much information to go on as I have hit a brick wall without having mother's information for these people
John foley born about 1841 in cork died in Bristol 1880 father is John foley mother unknown  no other information.
Elizabeth Barry born about 1849 died in Bristol 1929  father George Barry mother unknown . Really don't know which way to go as I can't go any further without information. If anybody can help I would be great full

Have you found them on censuses?
Did either have siblings whom you could trace on censuses for information about their birthplaces? Younger siblings whose births might have been registered?
Who were marriage witnesses and baptism sponsors? Were they possible relatives?
