Diary - Wednesday 29 April 2020
« on: Wednesday 29 April 20 20:16 BST (UK) »
Feels like another day of same old, same old for me to write about.  Finished nightshift.  Home on buses.  Breakfast, bed, tea and then start all over again.

In a paper today I have read that 407,000 jobseekers have made applications for NHS jobs - apparently a huge surge from this time last year.  I think this just shows how passionately people value the NHS that so many want to play a part despite all we have heard about the tragic deaths of frontline workers.

When I got home this morning I was pleased to see a grasscutter man going around cutting some of the long overgrown public grass areas at last.

I think we are all much more appreciative of others services now, which we may have just taken for granted in the past.

Yes, that's good to see, a massive demonstration in practical terms of how highly people think of the NHS workers.

A strange sort of day for me. Woke myself up coughing at 6a.m, my chest really doesn't like the tree pollens that are about at this time of year but it's usually a few weeks earlier that it shows.

It was my friend's husband's funeral today, she had given me the details to watch the webcast but sadly the video didn't play. I spoke to her later today and she said no-one had been able to view it but it was available now, so I watched it tonight. I felt so useless not being able to be there for her, although I know she just accepted that that's how it had to be and I was with her in spirit.

It was cool and cloudy today, not that many people about so I was able to walk through the woods more and think about things. Not that I don't have plenty of thinking time anyway but the events of this particular day brought on my pensive mood.

After lunch I did some research (not family history) and wrote a rather long email. Then went to clean the bathroom. My mother always used to comment on how the place you go to get clean gets the dirtiest. I saw Alice Beer on This Morning today, talking about how to use bleach (after comments were made on the speech by a certain American!) She said you could put it in a spray but it's more difficult to put it directly where you want it. Last time she was on talking about the same subject she suggested putting it in a spray.  ::) Apparently bleach has a use by date as it loses its efficacy. I never knew that.

Did a few other chores (it never ends) and spent a while on Rootschat. One of these days I'll get round to doing more family history but I do find these chat threads comforting at a time like this, I feel like I'm among friends when I can't physically be among friends.

My friend rang after I texted her and told me about the funeral and other things that are going on, I  was glad to speak to her.

Was thinking about what to have for tea, remembered I had the other half of the chicken in pasta sauce to use up so I had that, it was easy and that suited me today.

Watched some TV, have started watching the Sewing Bee programme that I recorded, might leave it till another day, not really in the mood for it.

Hope everyone has had a good day, also hoping for some respite from the daily grind for River Tyne Lass.

I have written my thoughts for RTL and Pharma on Tuesdays diary...

I think that you're right about people being more appreciative of others now... I hope the government will be too and put the funds into the NHS and its staff in more than just words!

I'm sorry Roobarb you are going through a tough time at the moment and I can't imagine how difficult you're finding not being able to see and comfort your friend... I only know how I feel not being able to see my grandsons who are both very precious to me and what my daughter went through to have them... oldest one ( nearly 7) is very worried about not seeing us, and when will he and will they ever be able to come and stay... he's saying what I'm thinking! It's good to have somewhere like RC where you feel you're amongst friends even when you don't know them...

Today's diary is pretty much like the rest of the days... dull weather today, usual morning spoke to some friends on the phone had lunch...
Did some sewing of headbands for friends DiL's hospital and watched Kirstie Allsopp on Chanel 4 doing her lockdown crafting!
OH fed up as he couldn't get outside and because I was busy doing something he couldn't join in with so got out a jig saw! He must be desperate!
We had salmon tonight made from a recipe out of my good food mag that came yesterday... bung all ingredients in one dish shove in the oven and cook for 20 mins... lovely.
Watched tv.. The Repair Shop.. such a refreshing programme to watch, talented people ... then The Sewing Bee... not keen on this series, don't like the presenter he's an idiot and totally inappropriate ( in my humble opinion) and why can't they have 'normal' people on it! The BBC are just impossible... I'd stop watching it if it wasn't to do with garment making... just have to,put the people out of my mind...
Bed and a read...

Take care all and hoping tomorrow is a better day all round...

Caroline

PS - cheered up as daughter just sent me some photos of the boys having science lesson today...

Thanks for your kind comments Caroline, I am finding it difficult but when I feel sorry for myself I remind myself how much more difficult it is for my friend.

Your salmon recipe sounds great, bung everything in a dish and shove it in the oven is just my kind of cooking!
I don't like the Sewing Bee presenter either, bring back Claudia Winkleman!

Caroline - is there a reason why you can't share the recipe here on the thread?  It sounds very interesting.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
