Lewis John Adams died Australia 2001
« on: Friday 01 May 20 12:07 BST (UK) »
Hi RootsChatters

I'm up against the proverbial brick wall here trying to determine if this is 'my' Lewis John Adams, born 20 November 1916 in Chesterton, Cambridgeshire, England ... or not.  The Lewis I'm looking for married a cousin of mine Margaret Drummond on Christmas day 1939 and from there the trail sort of runs dry, although there is a possible tree for him on Ancestry with no mention of a spouse.

Ancestry shows:
Victoria, Australia, Wills and Probate Records, 1841-2009
Lewis John Adams
Death dd/mm/2001 city

Is there anyone who is willing to help me resolve this?

Louisa John is a transcription error, looking at the image of the document it is easy to see why the error ocurred.

I found the Ancestry Tree with the Death in Australia listed but it contains no details of him travelling there nor are there records on Ancestry that I could positively ID, that said there is a Lewis Adams with a birth year of 1916 going to Adelaide in 1948 but appears with a Wife Elsie, there is another listed as LE Adams bound for South Africa where it maybe a stopping off point before onward travel

The WW1 record does list other Children so that is the area that I would follow up on, researching his siblings may lead to more info on Lewis John being found

Hi Colin

I picked up on that typo on Ancestry, thanks, and have found a tree* with him on it.  I've messaged the owner but heard nothing back yet.  The other siblings are as listed in the tree*.

I did find this though ...
Victoria, Australia, Wills and Probate Records, 1841-2009
WILLS, ESTATES & GUARDIAN RECORDS
Name:  Lewis John Adams
Death:  dd/mm/2001 city

Sadly my Ancestry sub doesn't stretch to finding the record to determine if it's 'my' Lewis.  I have a cousin in Brisbane who may be able to help though and I've emailed him.

Where did they marry?

When was Margaret Drummond born?

Married Scotland.
Just found it

In the 1960s the one in Australia is a “buyer”. And still has wife Elsie.

No sign of an obit for him in a Ryersons.

The list I see gives contact address in Adelaide as C/- the Zinc Corporation.   I’m pretty sure that’s a mining company,

Hi Ladyhawk

You have the right Lewis (as above).  I am quite sceptical as to whether the death information is correct though.

Margaret was born on the 19th of January 1920 at North Lambieletham, Parish of Cameron, Fife, Scotland, second (illegitimate) daughter of my aunt Janet Lundie Pearson Drummond (no father mentioned on the Register of Birth)
She and Lewis were married on 25 December 1939 in Lundie Cottage, Strathkinness, Parish of St Andrews & St Leonards, Fife, Scotland.  Just to confuse the issue, the Register of Marriage shows her grandparents as her parents  :-\
