I need help with the origins of my direct Paternal ancestor, Peter Poyner.
I know the Surname Poyner was highly concentrated in
Shropshire prior to the 17th century.
I first find him in the
Registers of Servants Sent to Foreign Plantations, 1654 - 1686 (Bristol Registers). He was indentured to a Thomas Bedford on March 9, 1668. His indenture was for 4 years with the destination as Barbados.
He landed in Virginia prior to 1680 and received 350 acres. He eventually travelled south into Currituck County, North Carolina around the year 1699. His will was probated in Currituck County in the year 1715.
I'm not sure if he went back to England from Barbados or went from Barbados to Virginia.
His land transactions state he was a Cordwainer and he did leave his shoe making tools to one of his sons in his will.
I know it's a tall order but I'm hoping someone can stumble upon a clue or at least what ships were leaving Bristol bound for Barbados in the late 1660's.
This mystery has been a brick wall for our family for 30 years
