Wonky Ancestry / Deciphering Issue
« on: Saturday 02 May 20 02:44 BST (UK) »
Good day!

So in searching for Martha Saltonstall's birth record I came across this entry for here on Ancestry:

Name: Martha Saltonstall
Event Type: Baptism
Baptism Date: 12/04/1599
Baptism Place: Heptonstall, St Thomas Yorkshire England
Parish as it Appears: Heptonstall, St Thomas
Father: Jonas Saltonstall

The image provided is attached but I can't make heads or tails of the handwriting at all - I can; however, see that the dates are 1600 not 1599. I'm not sure if Martha is on the page at all?

Could someone determine if Martha is on this page, indicate where, and translate please?
Crawford, Smith, Marr, Newton, McClement, and more :)

It is the fifth last record in April 1600.

She is first of a group of three baptised on 18 April.

(M)artha fil(ia) Jonas saltonstall hepto(nstall)

The M of Martha is cut off and the a is pretty faint - however the rtha is quite clear.

ADDED:

The date is written:   xviij die

Albeit the h is of a style not seen elsewhere in the extract.

I fully agree with the above reading, but it is 18 May. It's the 4th entry under the heading May 1600.

You'all Rock - I don't know why it's so hard to decipher this hand. It's like it's French / Latin but it's from Yorkshire!
