The Marriage of Thomas Burrough/ Burrows To Jane England In 1845
« on: Saturday 02 May 20 11:01 BST (UK) »
Hello There,

I am trying to find the above marriage of these people or at least the original parish register of it.
According to "England Marriages" this marriage took place at South Petherton, Somerset, on the 9th of February 1845.

But I'm really not certain that this marriage did take place at South Petherton.
I have found the register of the banns on Ancestry:

"Thomas Burrow, a Bachelor, a Sojourner in this parish, and Jane England, a Spinster in this parish." The Banns were read on three Sundays from the 26th of January 1845. -
" Somerset, England, Marriage Registers, Bonds and Allegations, 1754-1914 for Jane England." -
https://www.ancestry.co.uk/interactive/60858/42886_1831115184_0926-00174/903400833?backurl=https://www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/108837364/person/420183010268/facts

But when I look in the marriage register on Ancestry to find a record of the marriage it cannot be found/ at least I can't see it anyway:
https://www.ancestry.com/interactive/60858/42886_1831109388_0565-00031?pid=2474858&backurl=https://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?dbid%3D60858%26h%3D2474858%26indiv%3Dtry%26o_vc%3DRecord:OtherRecord%26rhSource%3D60857&treeid=&personid=&hintid=&usePUB=true&usePUBJs=true&_ga=2.4372279.509753000.1588107010-1910680500.1578225970#?imageId=42886_1831109331_0880-00061

I also tried to find the marriage on the GRO index under Civil Registrations. But I can't find it there either. The only Thomas Burrow/ Burrough that I can find getting married to a Jane in 1845, is one that married a Jane Bastyn/Bastin in the Honiton Registration district.

For Jane, the wife of Thomas her birth year at least in most census returns was put down as being around the year 1825, all apart from one in 1871, when her birth year was put down as 1833. In all of the returns, her place of birth was put down as being "Lopen, Somerset."
Now I originally thought this Jane may have been baptised in 1822, an illegitimate daughter of Hannah England. But then I found on Freereg a burial at Lopen for a 1 year old Jane England in 1823.
I then thought she may have been the Jane baptised at Lopen in 1827, to a Matthew and Elizabeth. But I found her unmarried in the 1851 Census, I think at Lopen/ South Petherton, and her brother Thomas was with her.
I could also dismiss the Jane England baptised 1819 in Lopen, because I found her unmarried with her father in the 1851 Census.
So I am coming round to the idea she may have been born illegitimate.

Their oldest daughter, Elizabeth (sometimes later named Elizabeth Mary/ Mary Elizabeth), my 3x great grandma, was born at Chard according to all census returns, in 1845. But I can't seem to find a baptism or registration for her birth.
The family were living at Crewkerne in the 1851 and 61 Census returns. Elizabeth had younger siblings Edwin, Gilbert, and Benjamin.
Elizabeth married Edwin Thomas Ebdon, on the 16th of July 1866 at Sidbury. Her father was living at Sidford by the 1871 census. Jane died in 1888 at Sidford, and Thomas died there in 1892.

If anyone has any information relating to the above, this would be very gratefully accepted.

Thank you very much.  :) ;)

I think I looked into this one before. I think I found out that this Jane England married Charles Vaux at Shepton Beauchamp, on the 17th of February 1849. If I remember rightly, it gave her father's name on Freereg as Joseph, and then I think I tracked her down in one census return on Ancestry, and it gave her year and place of birth, and she was living with Charles Vaux. Thank you.  :)
