McNeilly/Cairns any information
« on: Saturday 02 May 20 13:22 BST (UK) »
Hope someone can point me in right direction. I know that at least 3 of my Father’s Uncles/Aunts emigrated to Canada. I have information on the ships that two of them travelled on and photos of my Dad with each set of them in 1940/41 in Canada when he was on his way to and back from Medicine Hat for RAF training. I have two addresses for them in Ontario circa 1927/29. I have their full details of birth/marriage etc and also one Child (although definitely know there were more as they are in photos).
I’d like to find out more about their lives in Canada, am I likely to be able to find information available online?
Where is best place to look?
I can post their details if necessary.
Thanks you for any assistance 😀

If you can give us a few details to help the search we can have a look around.
Sometimes with the aid of voters lists, newspapers for obituaries etc ., we might be able to unravel something for you.
There is no bmd index for the time frame you require, probably more available if they end up in British Columbia.

Thank you Sandra that is very kind of you.
I will give you as much detail as possible.
FAMILY ONE
Joesph Cairns b Ireland 1881
Elizabeth Lizzie) Cairns nee McNeilly b Old Monkland, Coatbridge, Scotland 1882 Mother’s maiden name Margaret Donald.
They married 13/05/1905 in Coatbridge and had Daughter Margaret Donald Cairns b 23/04/1906 who died 20/05/1906 and had another Daughter with same name born 19/09/1909.
I have not been able to find them on 1911 Scottish Census.
I have no emigration details at all but know they went to Canada (see Family Three)
FAMILY TWO
Thomas McNeilly b Old Monkland, Coatbridge 1882 Mother maiden name as Above for Elizabeth.
Ellen McNeilly nee Linden b Old Monkland 1882
Married RC Church Coatbridge 26/10/1916
Unaware of any Children.
They made a return voyage to Canada aboard the SS Metagama arriving Quebec 24/09/1927:
Ship manifest has them as Canadian citizens and if I read it correctly since arriving firstly in 1923.
Home address is 226, Winhort St, Hamilton, Ontario.
FAMILY THREE
Peter McNeilly b Old Monkland 1894 Mother’s maiden name as Elizabeth & Thomas.
Helen McNeilly nee?? b 1900
Son Allan McNeilly aged 4.
Arrived as immigrants at Quebec aboard the SS Minniedosa 29/06/1929.
Ships manifest staesbthat their contact/sponsor in Canada is his Brother in Law Joesph Cairns of 591 Broch Avenue, Toronto. (That’s how I know Joesph & Elizabeth emigrated).

I have photos from 1940/41 with writing on the back stating “Uncle Tom & Young Cousin Harry”, “Aunt Nellie & Uncle Tom” and “Aunt Lizzie & Cousin Jennie”. There are several other photos of these and others but with no annotation.

I know Dad arrived at Halifax Nova Scotia in August 1940 and have photos of him at Debert, Hamilton, Niagara, Toronto, Calgary, Banff & where he was stationed until May 1941 Medicine Hat Alberta.

That’s all I have... good luck and once again thank you so so much for your time & trouble. More than happy to reciprocate if you need anything from Norfolk & Suffolk England.
Stay safe in these troubling times.
