Many thanks for the advise given. I have followed the genealogy thread to Joerg Fischer 1690 who died in Elzhausen. It doesn't  say to whom he was married but it does say he had a child -Georg Leonhard Fischer born 1722. As the direct trail stops with Joerg Fischer 1690 I looked on the links and found one other Fischer from Elzhausen born 1655 - Nikolaus Fischer  born 1655. This would be the right age to be Joerg Fischer's father ? Could it be possible although Nikolaus Fischer was unmarried when Joerg Fischer was born he was in fact his father as Nikolaus Fischer married Appollina Klein in 1690 (when Joerg would be 3 years of age)
I look forward to your thoughts
Many thanks

Christian Kneller appears to have married Mary Schaffert in 1869, Bury St Edmunds

As on the record found earlier Maria Magdalena's mother was Anna Maria nee Schaffert, I think this suggests that he is indeed the uncle mentioned, the husband of Magdalena's maternal aunt.

In 1871 he is a pork butcher:

They had children:
Mary Ann b. 1869 Bury St Edmunds died in infancy
Sophia b. 1870 Bury St Edmunds seems to
Emma b. 1872  Bury St Edmunds married Liverpool in 1899

Possibly also a Marian around 1874 in Crewe?

Something weird seems to have happened with this family - I can't find them together 1881 census onwards but Mary Ann Schaffert might have reverted to her maiden name for a while and then back to Kneller later:

1891 Schaffard, married, children Mary and Fred:

1901 as Schaffert with children Mary Ann and Fred:

1911 as Kneller with her daughter Mary married her son Fred as Schaffert:

Marian / Mary Ann's birth I can't find - just the christening in Crewe.  She married as Mary Ann Kneller in 1901 Prescot district (covers Widnes)
Fred appears to be registered as "Christian Frederick Schafert" in Prescot district - there is also a Maggie/Margaret born and died in 1879 in the same area.

Many thanks for finding the uncle, most interesting that he seems to have disappeared from the family's life . I now understand why the family were in Widnes and Runcorn. Supporting the Aunt and family, I think.
I have followed the genelogy link to Casper Fischer (Vischer) Born 1540 at Orlach, Hall, Jagstkreis who married Eva Strecker about 1545 and died 14 Jan 1600 but there seems to be no parents listed .
Does the trail go cold there for the Fischers? Any help much appreciated
