Mystery Hannah - Rotherham area
« on: Saturday 02 May 20 14:39 BST (UK) »
I am unable to find anything on my 4th great Grandmother. She is in the 1881 census living in Swinton under the name Hannah Hague aged 18 with her husband Matthew Hague aged 23. She soon died in 1889 living in a few houses down from her house in 1881. On the 1881 she is given a birthplace and year of 1863 in Swinton.

They had 4 children Sarah, Matthew, John and Rose with the youngest being born just a few months before Hannah's death. I am unable to find a maiden name for her and the only marriages I can find for a Matthew Hague at that time was to either an Annie, Ann or Matilda. Could she be either of of these women? And how could I prove which one she is?
Harvey, Hawes, Theaker, Senior, Watkin, Slack, Simmons, Hague, Hillery, Graver, Houldershaw, Catchpole, Nixon, Evison, Weeden/Weedon.

Checking against John and Rose I think you will find her maiden name was White. They are on the birth register with their surname spelt as Haigh.

Where did you find the maiden name? I have looked on the birth index and it didn't mention the mothers maiden name. Thank you for the help!

You can search the General Records Office (GRO) https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp and it will show you the mother's maiden name. It does not cost you anything to search just have to register.

Thank you! Thought it may have been her but couldn't find anything to prove it.

I have also seen the 2nd Marriage for Matthew. They ended up having quite a few kids together. It's just Hannah I could never find anything about other than her death.

 Thanks again everyone!
