Help looking for my Challis family beyond 1763

Afternoon all,

With the help of various resources (and people on RC I have managed to trace back to my Great Grandfather x5. I don't have his baptism record but have the of my Great Grandfather x4, Thomas Challis - baptised on Nov 8th 1795 in Aldbourne, Wiltshire - father Thomas Challis, Mother Ann.

According to Familysearch, Thomas Snr was born in 1763 and his wife Ann in 1767. They apparently married on 28th July 1788 but I can't find any records for either birth or marriage. Can anyone suggest how I can find out more about my great,great,great,great,great grandparents? Should these details be in Parish records?

I would be wanting to see Parish registers if they exist to support anything that I had only seen a transcript for.

It would appear that the marriage was in Aldbourne according to the Wiltshire marriage index.

When I search Ancestry it shows the marriage record but says "No Image - Text only collection" - Does this mean that Ancestry just don't have the images, or there are none in existence do you know?

It would be that FamilySearch has transcribed these records from the original records, perhaps from microfilming carried out by them, but do not have permission to put the images online.

Ancestry (a subscription site) has the images for Wiltshire parish registers.

Added: Have you looked in Berkshire at all?

Thanks for your reply I actually managed to find the marriage of Thomas and Ann in 1788, even got a banns of marriage record for it too

Just not sure how I could research further on from Thomas. Tried looking for the christenings of a Thomas Chalice (Challice, Challis etc.) but nothing :/

The actual marriage record I have seen from the original register is as listed above. Suggesting to me that Thomas Bunce may have come from another parish.

has Aldbourne marriages bond transcribed as well as other places and a Standarized  Family Index.  It also lists the Bondman e.g.  Margaret Bunce married Thomas Eyles a tailor from Ogbourne on the 18 Sept 1720 and a Thomas Bunce yeoman on Aldbourne was one of the Bondsman

I just googled Bunce Aldbourne and it took me straight to the searchable database.

Thank you, that's an amazing site! Such a shame there are no records for the Challis's pre 1763 when I know Thomas was born :/ Guess that's as far as I will get researching that side of the family.
