Siblings born 20 days apart
« on: Tuesday 05 May 20 04:02 BST (UK) »
 Tasmania - Harold KELLY 15/04/1903

I have been trying to find my husband's grandfather's (see above) mother.
His father was Robert Edward KELLY b 1875
Grandfather, Patrick KELLY m Sarah HEWITT RICHMOND TASMANIA
I cannot find a birth certificate for HARRY KELLY, assumed place of birth Zeehan, Tasmania.
I found ROBERT KELLY m THERESE BRIDGET LYNCH IN ZEEHAN in 1908.
Family information suggested mother was called AMY FLEMING. However, Robert's sister was Amy FLEMING nee KELLY.

Thank you for any help on Tasmanian Records. I've hit a brick wall for the last 2 years on Harry.

Here is an added interesting head scratcher....siblings to Robert Edward KELLY totaled 11.Two of being
Amy Frances b 08/07/1883 Richmond Tasmania
and August Frances b 28/07/1883 Spring Bay Tasmania, 20 days and 50km apart!
Any theories?
Bird, Burton on Trent,Staffordshire, Rotherham, Yorkshire,
Porritt, Taylor, Gales, Bennison, Medd, Whitby, Stewart, Lanarkshire, Lennox, Lanarkshire,
Emmett, Cornwall

Possibly twins with one arriving early. I did notice on the 2nd birth the informant was Margaret Hewitt - Aunt. Maybe after the 1st birth she was staying with her aunt who looked after her until the 2nd baby arrived. All here say of course. Tho did notice neither of the birth reg. state twins. Not sure neither if their birth certificates would have further info on them or not.

It is unlikely that Robert was his father, he was only 18 which was not common in those days.  Wasn't Harold's mother Amy Frances?

Twins Born 87 Days Apart -

May 2, 2013 - If the time span between births is confirmed to be 87 days, the span of time will break the Guinness World Record title for longest interval between birth of twins.

Which is correct.

Something is not right.

born 8 July - Amy Frances  -  registered 14 august

born 28th July - August frances - registered 8th august

August Frances birth was registered on 8 August so why wasnt the first child's birth reg. then as well instead of a week later??

I know nothing about Australian/Tasmanian records, but could it be each birth had to be registered in the district where it happened?
so early July, first child born, mother in distress, went to aunt's place, recuperated, went into labour again, second child born, recovered, registered the birth, mother returned to home town, registered the original birth.

As for validating the unusual circumstances, is there evidence of August in later years?  It seems to me August is more of a male name, might it be Augusta? Or a male August Francis?

Do Amy Frances and August Frances show on any records together? If not, it's probably just one person, with spelling or dates mis-transcribed on one document or the other. The place names may just have been used interchangeably, depending on how specific they needed to be.
