Can anybody please see  if you can find a marriage between a man called Hudson and lady surnamed McBeth or MacBeth in the Leith area between 1915 and 1930 and a daughter named Mavis born during that period ? My Ancestry doesan't want to cover Scotland !!

Hi

I think your best bet is to go to the Scotland's People. You will need to register and buy some credits.  https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

See

https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=714261.msg5578815#msg5578815

and further posts on that thread.

In the meantime, I'll have a quick look but I don't have any credits at the moment so I will be limited.

Nothing is coming up 1915-1930 for a marriage or  a birth for Mavis Hudson or M*cbeth in Scotland on a broad search.

Do you have any other information that might help.

As gadget says you will need to use scotlandspeople to verify your search.

A quick look at their site gives only 1 marriage under the name of Hudson for the years 1916/1930 -

Arthur William Hudson to Annie Law Lindsay or Orr 1916 - Leith 1916  -  Ref No 692/2 260.

Only 1 birth showing for a Mavis in Leith during this period. This is for a Mavis Rowetta Miller in 1924. This is not available to view online because of the 100 year rule.

Many thanks. The enquiry is not so urgent/vital that I want to venture into Scotlandspeple again just yet. Thanks, too, for the link which tends to prove that Scotland's genealogical fervour doesn't match that of England. Barry

I've always thought that it was greater  :-\

The information from 1855 onwards is far  more detailed and the certs are less costly.

In what way would you say that Scotland's Genealogical fervour doesn't match that of England's ???

Curious to have your take on that statement.

If I use Free BMD Searches I can find lots of info on births, deaths and marriages in England up to 1963 but I don't know of anything like that in Scotland or I wouldn't putting my request on here.
Last time I used ScotlandsPeople (my wife and I both had a Scottish grandmother) I got the info quickly but was left with credit I couldn't use. Keep safe, Barry

Free BMD is fine up to a point but you are not seeing the original certificates which can give lots of extra information.

You can search the Index on Scotlandspeople for free. All you have to do is register. It only costs when you purchase credits if you wish to see the original. Even at that each certificate only costs £1.25 to view and you can download it. Credits last for 1 year (if memory serves me correct) A small cost for the knowledge gained. This is not a cheap hobby and sometimes you have to pay to get what you want.

Keep safe
