Bdr Cyril H. Bowden; died 24 Jan 1945
« on: Thursday 07 May 20 09:01 BST (UK) »
I have been contacted by a chap from Nederweert, Netherlands.
We are wondering whether any descendants or relatives of Cyril are out there.

Cyril Helmn Bowden was born 12 December 1915 in New Mills, Derbyshire.
When he died he was a member of 1 Battery, 15th (Isle of Man) Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery

Originally the 15th (IOM) Light AA were all from the Isle of Man, in 3 batteries; 41st, 42nd and 129 Battery.
The 129 Battery were on Crete in 1941 and virtually all of them were captured by the advancing Germans.
So, in 1942, the 1st Battery, the Senior Regular AA Battery of the British Army joined the Regiment to replace the 129 Battery.

My guess is that Cyril was in 1 Battery, before that was attached to the 15th (IOM) LAA.

May 4th is the Dutch Remembrance Day, and Cyril was honoured this week with a floral tribute.

Are there any relatives/descendants of Cyril who would like to be put in touch with my Dutch contact?

He appears on family trees on Ancestry but one is private; perhaps a message to the owner would be useful?

Update...found a tree owner who appears to be active; brief message has been sent!

He appears to have married in 1940 Chapel en le Frith to an Allen, and had a son Cyril Allen Bowden born 14/1/1941, d.1996 Manchester who married a Granger in 1964 Chapel en le Frith.   Looks like a move to Lancashire after marriage (where his widowed mother Edith died in 2001).  Also looks like a son born 1965 and possible daughter 1969.

Just had a message back from the Ancestry member;  he does not belong to the family BUT is working on the tree for Cyril's grandson and has sent him a message.

Fingers crossed!

Thanks, girls.

Cyril married Edith Allen in 1940 - hence his son's names.

Cyril also had 2 brothers;
Frank (b1909) who appeared to not have any issue?
Eric (b1911) who had 3 daughters.

My Dutch contact assumed Cyril was from IOM, because he was in an IOM Regiment, and his name appeared on a Manx War Memorial.
And that's why he contacted me, via Manx Heritage.

Fingers crossed for a reply!
I have the Dutch email address, if we need to pass it on.
