Vanishing Hazlewood/Allitt children
« on: Friday 08 May 20 01:31 BST (UK) »
I am going round in circles trying to locate the following children after 1861 Census:
Mother Ann Hazlewood 1828 Mollington - 1862
William Thomas (seems to be known as Thomas) Hazlewood bc 1846 Mollington ) baptized Stoke
    John  Hazlewood bc 1848 Neithrop                                                                   )  25/12/1859
                                                                                                                         ) as Hazlewood/
                                                                                                                                 Allitt
George Hazlewood  bc 1851 - ?Banbury 1851 Dec 16 19 no mmn?                    ) baptized Stoke
    Mary Anne Hazlewood bc 1855                                                                       )  4/2/1861
Charles Henry Hazlewood bc 1856-? Banbury 1856 Jun 3a 612 no mmn?           ) as Hazlewood/
Catherine Hallett b1860 Foleshill  Mar 6d 395 mmn Hazlewood                          )      Allitt
Ann Hazlewood married Thomas Allitt in 1861 Walsgrave on Sowe Mar 6 379 .
In 1861, Thomas and Ann are listed  as Hallett and the children as Hazlewood in Stoke, Warwickshire RG09/2200/70/28.
Ann Allitt died in 1862 Foleshill Dec 6d 299 and Thomas Allitt died in 1873 Foleshill Mar 6d 284.
I did find Thomas in 1871 , as Allett, as a patient in hospital in Coventry RG10/3182/71/2 following an assault.
Sorry for the scrappy bits of information.

Yes, that is the 1861 Census for them.
I have tried different surname spellings for Hazlewood  and Allitt for  the later censuses but with no luck.
I did find a newspaper article for the assault on Thomas Allitt which landed him in hospital in 1871 but there was no mention of children in that.

Did you have this one?

Thomas Allitt death Jun 1867 Birmingham age 20

There is a Charles Allitt around born Stoke in later census (if the correct person) so maybe they all used that name  :-\

Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Just as a matter of interest is the John AZLEWOOD aged 18 born Molenton Oxon related to your Hazelwoods as he appears on the same page on 1861 census.

Well spotted, John. I didn't have a very clear image of the census sheet for 1861 so didn't notice him. Yes, he is one of 'my' Hazlewoods born in Mollington, Oxfordshire.
Millipede,  I will look into the Thomas & Charles Allitt later today.
I was getting in a right muddle with this bunch.

Thank you for your input.
I have just checked the 1871 Census and found John, George, Mary, Charles and Cristiana (?) Allitt in the same household and with appropriate ages. On the original census sheet, there is a note to say that head of household is in hospital in Coventry, which ties in with Thomas (father).
One puzzle down, many more to go.
